Júlia Mattos

Júlia Mattos is a PhD Fellow at the TURBA Lab (IN3/UOC). Holding a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, a Master’s in Interdisciplinary Studies in Environmental, Social, and Economic Sustainability (ICTA-UAB), and a Master’s in Urban Planning (UOC), her research lies at the intersection of urban political ecology, urban heat, and critical infrastructures across both the Global North and Global South. Grounded in qualitative methodologies, her work investigates how thermal stress and the vulnerabilities of essential water and energy systems impact the most marginalized urban populations. By examining the socio-political dynamics that emerge around public and private infrastructures and residents, their research highlights how vulnerable groups navigate thermal injustice and reshape the governance of critical infrastructures in a warming world.
