Book chapter: Más allá de las certezas en el urbanismo feminista: lo que revelan las etnografías
Abstract
In this chapter, we propose to go beyond the consensus of feminist urbanism and its commitment to the egalitarian and inclusive management of urban space by showing how ethnographic practice can push its limits, opening up and complexifying the dimensions of analysis. Drawing on existing debates in feminist anthropology, we situate two axes of reflection that highlight this ethnographic shake-up. Firstly, we examine ethnographic works that delve into the subjectivity and emotions linked to the urban experience, where fear has tended to occupy a leading role. We then propose the possibility of decentring this emotion in order to explore a wider repertoire of textures (such as shame, pleasure, or trust), as well as investigating strategies and formulas to overcome it, thereby avoiding victimization processes or the reinforcement of punitive policies. Secondly, we approach strategies of resistance and adaptation that challenge the capitalist urban order, highlighting the potential of feminist ethnography to identify and value everyday practices made invisible by other approaches.
