Laura Calvet-Mir is a Researcher at the Sustainability Area of Institut Metròpoli (UAB) and an affiliated researcher at the Urban Transformation and Global Change Laboratory (TURBA Lab) at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). Since 2014, she has coordinated the postgraduate diploma in Local Agroecological Dynamization at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), where she also teaches on traditional ecological knowledge and agroecological transitions.

As an environmental scientist, her research focuses on the study of urban and rural agriculture, agroecological transitions, biocultural diversity, and food systems in the context of global environmental change. Her work examines how ecological, cultural, and governance dimensions interact in local socio-ecological systems and contribute to sustainability transformations.

Drawing on interdisciplinary approaches, she combines ethnographic methods, including interviews, workshops, and participant observation, with quantitative techniques such as surveys, statistical analysis, and social network analysis. Through this work, she explores how different forms of knowledge contribute to the conservation of agrobiodiversity, the provision of ecosystem services, and the governance of natural resources in both urban and rural settings.

Her main research interests include agrobiodiversity, agroecology, ecosystem services, traditional ecological knowledge, ethnoecology, political ecology, food systems governance, and biocultural diversity. She is particularly interested in political agroecology and in understanding how power relations, knowledge systems, and governance processes shape agroecological transitions towards more resilient, equitable, and sustainable food systems.
