Special Issue: Trabajos de cuidados en el espacio urbano. Transformaciones y desafíos de la reproducción social
Abstract
Special Issue in Scripta Nova: “Care Work in Urban Space: Transformations and Challenges of Social Reproduction.” Coordinated by Ernest Cañada (UIB), Denise Kasparian (UBA), and Inés Gutiérrez Cueli (UOC).
This special issue explores the transformations experienced by care work in urban spaces. Grounded in the socio-reproductive crisis that contemporary capitalist societies are undergoing, we approach diverse ongoing dynamics and mutations located in large cities and metropolitan areas of Southern Europe and South America, with a particular focus on Spain, Argentina, and Uruguay. It proposes a reading of these transformations based on three dimensions or circuits: capital, the public sector, and the socio-community sphere. The dossier establishes a dialogue between the contributions of different research projects to draw an urban map of the main changes and challenges currently facing care work.
