Summary

The European Performing Science Nights (EPSN), part of the European Performing Science Program (EPSP), took place in 2024 and 2025 as two consecutive annual editions aimed at making science and researchers’ work more tangible, accessible, and emotionally engaging for the general public. Through an innovative hybrid format combining scientific research and performing arts, both editions proposed a range of science communication activities designed to foster mutual understanding between researchers, creatives, and audiences. Each edition culminated in a series of public events held during the last weekend of September (27th and 28th September 2024 in Badalona, and 26th and 27th September 2025 in Barcelona) coinciding with the European Researchers’ Night. Both events built upon a shared structure that intertwined training, co-creation, and public dissemination, while introducing new thematic and methodological refinements in the second year.

Three research groups from Catalonia took part in both editions: the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC), the Computer Vision Center (CVC) at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and TURBA Lab at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). Under the supervision of Fundación Épica La Fura dels Baus, these research groups collaborated with teams of artists and performers (18 creatives in 2024 and 20 in 2025) to transform scientific ideas into immersive performances that invited audiences to engage with science through emotion, imagination, and dialogue.
