Walking the Territory: Reconnecting Human and More-than-Human Relations in the Besòs River Delta
Summary
This participatory research project explores how people relate to the more-than-human world in the lower Besòs River (Barcelona Metropolitan Area). Building on previous work on ecocentric approaches, the project moves beyond theoretical discussions by engaging directly with the territory through collective walking, participatory mapping, and place-based ethnographic methods.
Participants will explore their relationships with the river’s water, vegetation, wildlife, sediments, and other non-human elements, reflecting on how these connections shape environmental care and coexistence. The project includes a collaborative field workshop followed by a public session to share findings and co-create narratives and proposals for strengthening ecological relationships in the Besòs River delta.
By fostering dialogue between people, place, and ecosystems, the project seeks to make visible the interdependence of human and more-than-human life and to promote an ecocentric ethic of care.
